DESCRIPTION: At statehood, Utah was given sections of land by the federal government for school lands. The state then could sell those sections, giving preference to any individual who had already settled and improved the land. These are applications from individuals to purchase school lands. They give the individual's name, address, citizenship status, settlement history, and description (both legal and physical) of the land.
