DESCRIPTION: This series contains Traumatic Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury surveillance abstracts. Operating under a grant from the Centers for Disease Control, the information is used by the Violence and Injury Prevention Program to compile statistics on the causes and outcomes of injuries as well as to promote injury prevention and legislation. Information includes type of injury; name; address; birth date ; age; gender; ethnic background; type of care received; diagnostic codes; hospitals at which treatment and rehabilitation was received; insurance information; injury information; whether injury was intentional or unintentional; whether injury was self-inflicted or inflicted by someone else; whether injury was work related; whether the injury involved a motor vehicle, a fall, sports, a weapon, or other cause; whether protective equipment was worn; whether alcohol or drug use was involved; the severity of the injury; and other information related to the injury. The information is compiled in a yearly report and sent to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia.
