SERIES: 27074
TITLE: Liquefaction potential records
DATES: 1995-
ARRANGEMENT: Grouped by file type, thereunder chronological

DESCRIPTION: This geospatial data set represents the liquefaction potential for Box Elder, Cache, Davis, Salt Lake, Utah and Weber Counties. Soil liquefaction describes the behavior of soils that, when loaded, suddenly suffer a transition from a solid state to a liquefied state, or having the consistency of a heavy liquid. Earthquake liquefaction is a major contributor to urban seismic risk. The shaking causes increased pore water pressure which reduces the effective stress, and therefore reduces the shear strength of the sand.
