TITLE: Historic trails records

ARRANGEMENT: Grouped by file type, thereunder chronological.

DESCRIPTION: This geospatial dataset represents various routes taken by exploration and settlement parties from 1776 to 1880 in what is now the State of Utah. For regional display and analysis it was produced at 1:500,000 scale. This dataset was used in the creation of the Utah Historic Trails map published by the Utah Division of State History.

Procedures Used: This dataset was converted from a UDOT DXF file using the DXFARC command. All the lines representing each group used were joined at dangling nodes and UNSPLIT whereever possible.

Revisions: Modifications to the alignment were made to some of the routes based on review by historians.

Reviews Applied to Data: This dataset was reviewed in printed form by various historians. Not all data present in this dataset were reviewed.

Notes: This dataset was originally created by George Wilkins, Chief Cartographer for the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), using DIGIMAP software.
